Evaluation of your company

The Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) sets a premium on evaluating in terms of supervision [Fr] the companies operating in the field of construction.

As a contractor or owner-builder, you are governed by the RBQ’s regulations. The RBQ will thus carry out inspections selectively or following complaints from consumers.

Evaluation criteria

Certain technical and administrative criteria are considered during the evaluation

During its evaluation control visits, the RBQ shall assess your ability to perform work in compliance with the Construction Code or the regulations which the RBQ enforces.

The RBQ shall verify that you meet your commitments towards it, namely to hold the appropriate licence and to detain the required financial guarantees.

Following the evaluation

If the evaluation establishes that you meet your obligations, the RBQ will mention it in your record, and will diminish its supervision activities with you until any forthcoming evaluation is called for.

If the RBQ observes any failure on your part to comply with your obligations, your company shall then be subject to monitoring, and the resulting data will also be logged into your record. The information entered into your record as a result of a complaint and following your evaluation is accessible to any person requesting it under the provisions of the Act Respecting Access to DocumentsThis link open an external website of the Régie du bâtiment du Québec in a new window..

Default on your obligations

If problems are logged to your record in the course of the RBQ’s evaluation, it shall intensify its presence to ensure that you understand your obligations thoroughly and that you take meaningful measures to remedy your default in this regard:

  1. You shall first be called to a meeting with the representative of one of our regional directorates. You will have to make firm commitments confirming that you intend to meet your responsibilities.
  2. The RBQ will then make sure that you have met these commitments by carrying out targeted inspection activities.
    • If the RBQ observes that you have met your commitments, it will log this observation in your record.
    • If the RBQ observes that you have not met your commitments, it shall take action or apply sanctions set out by the Building Act This link leaves the Régie du bâtiment du Québec’s website. This link open an external website of the Régie du bâtiment du Québec in a new window..
