Using interior parking garages

Even if we regularly use interior parking garages, we probably rarely take the time to watch their condition closely.

The owners of interior parking garages of course have the responsibility of making sure that their reinforced concrete structures are safe for the public. However, we as users may also keep a watchful eye over these.

Here are a few examples of items to watch for safety’s sake:

  • corrosion of reinforcing bars
  • slagging of the concrete slab
  • major cracks in concrete
  • efflorescence (salt deposit) emerging from below the concrete slab surface, forming a white substance deposit
  • stagnant puddles of water on an upper level.
