Indoor parking

While we regularly use interior parking garages, do we take the time to observe them closely?

Obviously, owners of interior parking garages are responsible for ensuring that their reinforced concrete structures are safe but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep an eye on their condition.

Here are a few examples of items to watch for in order to ensure our safety:

  • corroded reinforcing bars
  • slagging concrete slab
  • major cracks in concrete
  • salt efflorescence through the concrete slab (white substance)
  • puddles of stagnant water on upper levels.

In case of doubt, or if you have questions or comments related to the maintenance of interior parking garages and the responsibilities of their owners, please go to the Régie du bâtiment du Québec’s (RBQ) Contact Us page.

Send us your comments.
