Public pools and beaches

The RBQ reminds the owners of public pools and beaches that the Regulation respecting safety in public bathsThis link open an external website of the Régie du bâtiment du Québec in a new window. requires several measures be taken to avoid accidents. Owners must hire qualified supervisory personnel, among other matters.

While owners and operators of public bathing facilities are chiefly responsible for swimming safety, users also have their share of responsibility.

The checklists: a tool to assist you in complying with the requirements

The majority of infractions observed upon inspecting public bathing places are related to the sign posting of the regulatory requirements and the availability of the mandatory safety equipment.

In order to assist owners of public bathing places in complying with these rules as well as with those related to the supervision and the laying out of public baths, the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) encourages these owners to complete once a year the following checklists, which contain the main items to be verified:

It is important to keep these checklists in your files, as you could be asked to produce these during an inspection.
