Québec amendments applicable to the NPC 2005

Adopted by decree on January 29, 2014, the amendments to Chapter III, Plumbing, of the Construction Code came into force on April 29, 2014. This chapter incorporates the National Plumbing Code (NPC) of Canada 2010, to which were added the amendments set out by the province of Quebec. It replaces the previous version which was effective since July 2008. Any new plumbing installation carried out as of April 29, 2010 has to be in compliance with the requirements set out in this Chapter.

Requirements to be met

The Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) wishes to remind all plumbing contractors, professionals involved in designing and carrying out plumbing installation work, and manufacturers and distributors of plumbing products, that they need to meet the new requirements into force.

Amendments introduced at the national level, as well as those for the province of Quebec, have been adopted by consensus of the representatives of the various groups affected. The new regulation is consistent with the process of keeping current the codes or standards which are effective in the province of Quebec, in view of harmonizing whenever practical the regulatory framework between the provinces. The new regulation aims mainly at improving the level of sanitation, safety and protection of the plumbing installations in buildings, and at adapting these installations to certain technological changes.

Please refer to the document Quebec amendments applicable to the National Plumbing Code (NPC) of Canada 2010 [FR] – PDF (2,2 MB), which sets forth the amendments introduced by the province of Quebec.
