Guarantee Plan for new residential buildings

Are you thinking about buying a new house? The Guarantee Plan for new residential buildings covers all new houses and a large number of new condominiums. Set up in 1999 by the Gouvernement du Québec, it is managed by three administrators who are authorized by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) and is a provision of the Regulation respecting the guarantee plan for new residential buildings This link leaves the Régie du bâtiment du Québec’s Web site..

To benefit from the Plan, you must do business with a general contractor who holds a licence that includes subclass 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 and who is accredited by an administrator of the Guarantee Plan.

The provisions of the Guarantee Plan applicable to your residence vary depending on the date of the sale or the date on which construction began.

On or after August 7, 2006

New provisions apply to buildings which were sold AND whose construction began on or after August 7, 2006. These provisions are divided into two categories:
