The qualifications process

It is important to check whether you can qualify before applying for a licence or a licence amendment and before incurring other expenses related, for example, to setting up a company. To do so, you can view competency profiles related to those domains and subclasses for which you wish to qualify in our web page Preparation: information sheets and competency profiles.

The Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) will not issue or amend a licence until it has determined that the applicant has the required professional competencies.

Whose qualifications must be evaluated?

A natural person or a legal person who wants to obtain a contractor’s or an owner-builder’s licence or a contractor or owner-builder who wants to add a subclass to a licence previously issued.

How does the RBQ to evaluate your competency?

To have your competency evaluated, you can choose between those three options :

• successfully passing examinations
  or
• successfully completing a training program [Fr] recognized by the RBQ
  or
• presenting a professional file that meets the requirements.
