To entrust your work to a licensed contractor is to think safety!

Only contractors holding a licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) can offer you quality work and financial guarantees.

To obtain their licence, the contractors must take successfully specific examinations dealing with professional qualifications, safety and management skills.

The work you may not do by yourself:

It is mandatory that electrical work as well as the installation and maintenance of gas- or fuel oil-powered apparatus or appliances be carried out by contractors holding a valid licence.

The work you entrust to a contractor:

Make sure that you deal with a contractor holding a building contractor’s licence issued by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec, which corresponds to the work to perform.
Ask for bids from more than a single contractor, to compare the offers.
Get in touch with former clients to learn about their level of satisfaction.
Ask for a contract containing a detailed description of the work and a schedule.
Pay as small an advance payment as possible.
Do not pay the final amount until the work is completed to your entire satisfaction.

All contractors holding a licence from the RBQ have deposited with the RBQ a licence security protecting you in cases such as construction defects and faulty work. A sizeable advantage for you!

The RBQ verifies the integrity of the contractors to which it grants a licence

The contractors holding a valid licence are listed in the RBQ’s Licence holders repertory [Fr]. You will not find in this repertory the name of the contractors who work without a licence and of those whose licence has expired or has been suspended or cancelled. The latters no longer have the right to act as contractors.
