We aim at having the applicable standards and regulations complied with in order to ensure the safety of the persons as well as their protection as citizens.

You can count on us

The activities of the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) relate to you directly. It is the RBQ who:

• Issues the licence enabling you to carry out your professional activities.
• Offers support to the future contractors in the process they need to follow in order to qualify themselves for issuance of a licence.
• Ensures that your work is performed in compliance with the laws, regulations and codes which are applicable to your field of activity.
• Answers your inquiries related to the interpretation of the various Building Code articles, and informs you about the amendments to the regulations.
• Carries out actions as a result of any substantiated complaint on your part regarding a contractor who is engaged in unfair competition, for instance by working without a licence.

It is the new licence holder’s duty to exercise due care and diligence in offering quality products and services ensuring, for the public, the safety of the premises and facilities to which it will have access. The licence vests the right to perform work, but also carries the obligation to do so in compliance with the building standards in effect and according to good practice.

In view of thoroughly informing the new licence holder of his/her rights and obligations and also regarding the role of the RBQ and the purposes of the services it offers, some reference material is put at the disposal of the licence holder. This literature shall be handed over to him/her during a welcoming session with the RBQ’s officials.
